Burning Skies & Situational Awareness Join Forces!

banner With the recent release of the Spitfire module and upcoming release of the European theater, WW2 in DCS is booming and expected to become a massive attraction with already lots of players and clans coming over from IL2 and other WW2 flight sim communities.

After the success of the Bf109 Dogfighting Competition, Burning Skies and Situational Awareness have decided to take their partnership to the next level through officially sanctioning Burning Skies DCS Server!

Thanks to the outstanding, persistent and automatic player stats implemented by eekz, each month, up to 16 players will be awarded with ranking points that will count towards SA’s Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground Rankings!

Unlike other SA events where slots are limited, Burning Skies is an open 24/7 public server, therefore will allow virtually any DCS player to get a shot at making own way through the Rankings.

Burning Skies team will implement a few updates to the server and player stats section to ensure full compliance with PvP prerequisites and official SA-sanctioning has been set to kick off on February 1st!

The competitive scene is gaining popularity in DCS and together with our partners, we will keep striving to foster healthy PvP and sportsmanship as well as celebrating finest competitors with recognition and rewards. A lot of great news and milestones are around the corner, so stay tuned!

CLAIMING / REPORTING

CLAIMING PERIOD IS NOW OVER AND RANKINGS UPDATED!

BATTLEFACTS

Achievements and Milestones

  • Great performance from ACG’s player, Kraut as he tops the air-to-air category with a blistering 5 PvP kill to one loss only display of proficiency.
His clan, Air Combat Group also appears for the first time in the Squadron Rankings at the 5th place!

  • 51st PVO veteran Teknetinium keeps momentum after his excellent run in Grudge Match 2 by scoring best overall and 2nd best A2A performances this time around! Tek has moved 3 spots up in the A2A rankings and features now as #6.

  • Croncat capitalizes on GM2’s excellent display with another solid 5-3 result in air-to-air, thus improving his ranking to #11 and propelling Germany to #4!

  • With 2 ships and 3 BTR’s wiped out at the cost of 2 losses, Elmo takes MVP title and first spot in the Rankings for the air-to-ground category.

  • Not competing in GM3 and dropping a bunch of points due to the 12 month rule of the SA Rankings did not affect Stuge much; 104th star and flight instructor remains unquestionably at the top for the eight consecutive month, equaling all-time longest reign holder, Maverick. With that being said, the enormous amount of lead Stuge is enjoying over his immediate pursuers will undoubtedly allow him to achieve what nobody has achieved before, i.e, becoming the longest reigning A2A champion in the history of DCS.

  • This third round of the Grudge Match Series has seen the MiG-21 getting back in the spotlight after winning the maiden event and loosing round 2. This achievement has been first and foremost made because of a solid display of teamwork and Blitzkrieg-style tactics that enabled Team Fishbed to score lots of points and enjoy a comfortable lead from the early stages of the fight through concentrating a dense firepower on enemy ships using the deadly KH-66 Grom missile. Fishbed pilots have further widen the gap through superior tactics and coordination in the numerous furballs that took place throughout the battle.

TAW’s Caucasus Flag TvT Campaign Kicking Off Soon!

caucasus flag_round1_banner
To all DCS jocks, we’ve got exciting news for you! TAW, our long-time partner, are launching a new TvT campaign for DCS World on November 26th – that is going to be a Saturday and the meet up time on TeamSpeak has been set to 1600 Zulu!

You read it right, it is a campaign and not a one-time event. This means results from round 1 like captured airbases…etc will be carried over to round 2.

Story-line is about a shaky truce between two long standing enemies that got broken when Blufor took over Gelendzhik in a surprising attack while most of Redfor’s air force was performing far away up north in their annual national air show. Before their could react, Gelendzhik had already fallen.

On one hand, we’re going to have angry armed forces from the Red nation going full guns blazing to smash the intruders and force them out of their motherland.

On the other hand, Blue forces will try to reinforce their positions and push deeper into enemy territory by capturing more strongholds.

This exciting first round of Caucasus Flag will be a full blown territorial control battle and whichever team captures more bastions before the 3 hour mark will win!

As far as human-controlled assets go, there will be 12 air-superiority jets , 8 bombers and 4 combat helicopters available to each team.

In the air-to-air department, we will have the ever popular East vs West setup meant to bring some nice dissimilar air combat tactics into the game as the F-15C Eagle will only be available to Blue side whereas the MiG-29, Su-27 and Su-33 will only be driven by Redfor pilots.

To spice things up even more, there will be a restriction on available weapons to foster closer, more exciting fights, therefore the list below will be a no go:

– AIM-120B/C
– R-27ER/ET
– R-77
– KH-58
– All CBU bombs

Moreover and for the first time, we are going to introduce a new 15mn no-fly penalty concept – every time a fighter is lost or every 2 times a striker is lost or every 3 times a helicopter is lost, the player will have to wait 15mn before respawning. This is meant to keep the players on their toes and mindful about their aircraft while allowing reasonable room for aggressive tactics and teamwork, especially for more vulnerable air frames like bombers and helicopters.

Since this is a competitive TvT event that is going to be sanctioned by SA-SIM, best performances will count towards the SA Rankings! Criteria will be the usual confirmed kills, pilot status and mission status. We will also reward helicopter pilots with additional air-to-ground points every time they have deployed assets on the battleground be it troops or units!

For the full briefing of this event and the complete set of rules that will govern it, you’d want to visit TAW’s website here:

If you have 3 hours of free time on November 26th and would like sign up for either side, you’ll need to click below, that will take you to the event registration form – fill it out, submit and prepare for battle!

Burning Skies’ Bf-109 Open After Action Report

bf109_stuge_1v1open Whether it’s a state of the art combat jet or a prop fighter from WWII, it doesn’t seem to alter Stuge’s domination in BFM!

Burning Skies’ first PvP event offered some great action with eight Me-109 pilots squaring off for a chance to win a Tacview Pro license and bragging rights!

This competition ran on a double elimination format, meaning that each participant had a chance to play again after loosing first match. The roster was a mixture of western and eastern pilots with the participation of reigning DCS air-to-air world number one, Stuge.
We had also Croncat in the house, recent MVP of the last F-5 vs MiG-21 Grudge Match event.

The Me109, also called Bf-109 is a German World War II fighter aircraft that was the backbone of the Luftwaffe’s fighter force. It was interesting to see how DCS pilots would handle her in a 1v1 scenario.

Stuge was obviously the man to watch after winning the last two Top Gun tournaments in an emphatic fashion aboard his dreaded black F-15C Eagle from the 104th fighter squadron. With that being said, The Eagle and the Me109 are very different machines, and wondering whether Stuge would pull it off in a prop plane tournament was therefore a valid question.

The competition proved to be very stiff and Stuge had to work hard from the very first rounds. He almost lost against a relentless Maler in the big finale as score was 2 rounds a piece when both men squared off for a tie breaker.

Maler seemed to have the upper hand, getting almost his guns to bear before both Messerschmitt’s collided, which forced the round to be replayed! It’s hard to say whether the mid-air collision was an accident or provoked by Stuge as a last ditch effort to stay in the match but in all cases, what an unbelievable twist that was as it gave Stuge an unexpected recovery.

Now with the fight restarting on neutral terms, Stuge appeared more determined and aggressive from the initial merge, gaining angle by angle in the grueling nose-to-tail turning fight that ensued; Under increasing pressure, Maler ended up making a costly mistake after he went vertical while Stuge was pressing for the kill.
Stuge did not miss the opportunity and took out his adversary after scoring direct hits with his cannon, literally snatching one of the biggest victories of his career from the jaws of defeat and most importantly, brought his new BFM winning streak to 16 victories against no losses since his first appearance in Top Gun 2.

Very few other players could really threaten Stuge in past BFM events but just like Maler, they could not emerge victorious no matter how tight the margin was at the end – it seemed like Stuge was always one step ahead and able to prevail even when the odds were stacked against him.

Video of the FINAL FIGHT: Stuge vs Maler

This is a breathtaking fight for survival between two highly skilled DCS pilots that know how to push the 109 to the edge of the enveloppe. It’s also nerve-wracking as both players need to stay aggressive but cool-headed at the same time with almost each round exceeding the 5mn mark.
The proficiency of Stuge and Maler in the 109 are closely matched and there is simply no room for error! Let me have the pleasure to invite you to feast your eyes on it and maybe share your thoughts with us in the comment section below!

Amazing and flawless organization from tournament director and Burning Skies server provider and manager, Eekz. If you own a WW2 DCS module and would like to take her for ride, try Burning Skies server; Eekz is running some interesting missions in there and he is also very responsive to feedback from the community so if you have suggestions, let him know on ED forum. Eekz is also one of the very few DCS server owners that runs a live player statistics page that enables you to track all kinds of relevant data when you fly on Burning Skies server.

Many kudos go to Virtuoz for providing free Tacview Pro licences to the top 3 participants. Tacview is a must have for every flight simmer, it’s being constantly upgraded with new features and it has now the ability to feed you with live data as the mission unfolds. The interface and 3D objects have also been dramatically improved to the point where you can almost think you’re watching a game of its own rather than an ACMI track.
There are currently 3 different versions: the Free version, Home edition then the Professional edition, make sure you check out all 3 before you decide which one suits you. Obviously if you want total access to all features, then the Pro version is the way to go! if you havent got Tacview yet, you’re denying yourself a valuable tool that would help you analyse your sorties in great depth and make your flight simming experience 10 times better.

Tacview Recordings

Speaking of Tacview, here is where you can download the ACMI of every single fight of the tourney!

Milestones and Breakthroughs

Not only Stuge is still firmly in the lead of the SA air-to-air Rankings but he has widen the gap after his victory in Burning Skies’s 1v1 Open as well as a positive performance during Round 2 of the GM series.
With now over 7000 points lead over the competition, Stuge is almost certain to dethrone his fellow squadron mate, Maverick in the race for the longest stay at the top of the A2A Rankings as only one month separate the two at the moment…
Stuge is also top 104th squadron player as well as top Finnish player. Needless to say that it’s mostly because of Stuge’s outstanding performances that both his clan and country comfortably lead respectively in the Squadron and Country rankings.

Other players have also been in the spotlight lately; Croncat is now in the top 15 DCS players after giving the best performance of GMS2. Croncat is also now the leading German DCS player.

Maler, the man who gave Stuge a run for his money in the finale of the Me109 1v1 competition moved up to the 24th place in the rankings and alongside McLOUD, brought the Firmament Fighter squadron to the 7th place of the Squadron rankings.
